Number of active SIM cards in Tanzania hit 58.1 million in September, 2022 – TCRA

The number of active SIM cards in Tanzania rose to 58.1 million in September, 2022 as compared to 56.2 million recorded in June, 2022 being a 3.4 per cent increase according to the latest report from the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA).

The figure includes SIM cards used by people for personal communication and those used for machine-to-machine (M2M) communication.

In addition, statistics show that the five regions in Tanzania lead the pack in having the largest number of active SIM-cards as of September 2022  that include Dar es Salaam which has 9.7 million, Mwanza with 3.7 million,  Arusha with 3.4 million, Mbeya with 3.08 million, and Tabora   with 3.06 million SIM cards.

“An analysis of these lines for service providers shows that there is a lot of competition; because no service provider with more than 35 per cent market share of the total registered SIM cards,” the report said.

According to the report, the trend of SIM card registration for the last five years shows an increase of eight percent for year on year basis.
