Zanzibar Government’s Blue Economy Agenda has finally started paying off after the isle’s government registered a total of 180 projects during the last 18 months a top government official has said.

Speaking during the Tanzania Energy Conference in Dar es Salaam, the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA) Executive Director Shariff Ali Shariff said the Blue Economy agenda has helped in increasing economic development in the country.

He said the Government has already embarked on plans to set up the necessary infrastructure to support its development vision adding the Government is set to construct another international Airport in Pemba that will help in opening the Pemba market.

“Plans are underway to commence construction of an international airport in Pemba because of its strategic location and connect Zanzibar to the rest of the world,” he said.
