Tanzania has a big renewable energy potential and can play a leading role in energy transition within the East African Community (EAC) region TotalEnergies Marketing Tanzania Limited Managing Director Jean Schoepp has said.
According to him, Tanzania needs a conducive regulatory framework to attract more investors in the renewable energy sector.
“The opportunities are there but to move in that direction, a regulatory frame work is key to attract investors,” he said.
Schoepp said the country also needs to invest in skills development and capacity development to exploit various opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
“Most of the renewable energy projects need a lot of skills and technology. Without the required skills, the country may not realize its full potential,” he added.
He said TotalEnergies will spend $6o billion globally to facilitate its transition to renewable energy as part of its commitment to Environmental sustainability and Governance (ESG).
“We have been in Tanzania for over 50 years now and this reiterates our long-term commitment to the country. We have an ambition of being among the top five companies using renewable energy globally and Tanzania will be part of the journey,” he added.
