Solar Nitrochemicals Limited (SNCL) on 13th April 2025 inaugurated its newest explosives manufacturing plant in the Kisarawe Industrial Area, reaffirming its commitment to Tanzania’s industrial development and mining sector growth.
The official launch event was presided over by Hon. Anthony Mavunde, Minister of Minerals, who commended the investment and emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting local manufacturing.”
The new explosives plant is a timely and strategic investment. It not only boosts Tanzania’s industrial base but also directly supports our national agenda of growing the contribution of the mining sector to GDP,” said Minister Mavunde. “We welcome Solar Nitrochemicals’ contribution and encourage more companies to follow their lead in order to reduce dependency on imports.”

The plant is a state-of-the-art facility designed to manufacture explosives used across open-pit and underground mining, tunneling, construction, and seismic exploration. With proximity to major mining regions, the plant ensures faster delivery, reduced logistical costs, and a reliable supply chain for Tanzania’s key extractive industries.
Beyond its operational capacity, the new plant is expected to generate significant socio-economic impact. It is projected to create 300 direct jobs and 1000 indirect jobs through the supply chain and support services. Additionally, the new plant is expected to increase the company’s contribution to government revenue through taxes. Since the launch of its operations in November 2021, from the company has contributed TSh 17.104 Billion to government through various taxes and levies, and this contributed is expected to exponentially grow by 2030.
Moreover, the plant will serve as a catalyst for technology transfer and local expertise development. By manufacturing key explosive products locally – SNCL aims to reduce dependency on imports and increase Tanzania’s self-reliance in critical mining inputs.
