Tanzania’s telecom subscriptions up 4.7% to 67.1 million in Q3, 2023

The number of active telecom subscriptions grew by 4.7% from 64.1 million recorded in June to 67.1 million during Q3, 2023 according to the latest Communications Statistics released by the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA).

The report further shows that there was a significant increase in subscriptions in the quarter ending September of around 3.1 million compared to 1.6 million recorded in the quarter ending June 2023.

“There is no operator with a market share greater than 35%, which is a minimum significant level for a dominant operator. This observation signifies no dominant operator, indicating healthy competition among the operators,” the report says.

According to the report, Vodacom commands the biggest market share with 20.55 million subscriptions followed by Airtel and Tigo that have 18.48 million (28%) and 18.18 million (27%) subscribers respectively.
