Petrol and diesel prices fall marginally as kerosene prices surge in November

Motorists in Dar es Salaam will breathe a sigh of relief after a marginal fall in both petrol and diesel of 7/- and 74/- respectively according to the new price caps announced the Energy and Water Utilities Authority (EWURA).

Dar es Salaam residents will thus have to pay 3, 274/- from 3,281/- and 3,374/- from 3,448/- for a liter of petrol and diesel with effect from today/

Tanzanians will however have to dig deeper into their pockets to purchase kerosene as new cap prices show a 480/- increase in the product per each liter purchased.

“Changes in prices of petroleum products in November 2023 are mainly due to the decrease in the world oil price by an average of 5.6%, and a decrease in premiums for the importation of petroleum products by an average of 13% for PMS and 25% for AGO, reduction of production of petroleum products by OPEC+ and economic sanctions on Russia,” the energy body said in a statement.

The energy body however threatened to take legal action against any retailer or wholesaler who fails to

Comply with the price caps.

“Oil Marketing Companies are free to sell their products at a price that gives them a competitive advantage provided that, such price does not exceed the price cap and is not below the floor price for the relevant product as it is computed according to the EWURA (Petroleum Products Prices

Setting) Rules,” the statement said.
