Trading activity on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) remained relatively stable in the final week of September, although the overall market lost value as several share prices declined.
Equity turnover reached TZS 27.87 billion during the week ended October 2, up 1.47 percent from TZS 27.47 billion in the previous week.
A total of 11.67 million shares changed hands through 18,546 transactions.
CRDB led trading by volume, with 5.92 million shares exchanged, while the bank also recorded the highest equity turnover at TZS 15.8 billion.
NMB, CRDB and Vodacom Tanzania remained among the exchange’s most actively traded counters.
Despite the increase in turnover, total market capitalisation declined 1.08 percent to TZS 40.38 trillion. The DSE All Share Index also fell 1.08 percent, while the Banks, Finance and Investment Index dropped 2.22 percent.
National Media Group was the week’s strongest performer, gaining 8.62 percent, followed by NICO Insurance, which rose 4.43 percent.
On the downside, Mbeya Cement declined 7.44 percent while DCB Commercial Bank fell 4.76 percent.
Bond-market activity also weakened, with turnover falling 30.27 percent week-on-week to TZS 82.69 billion.
The latest figures point to a market where trading activity remains relatively resilient even as share-price movements put pressure on overall valuations.
For investors and listed companies, sustained turnover remains important for market liquidity, while the decline in major indices highlights continued sensitivity to individual counter performance.
