TCRA recorded over 12,600 SIM Card fraudulent practices in Q4, 2022

The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) reported 12,613 fraudulent practices which were committed using SIM Cards during the period between October to December last year.

According to the national communication regulator’s latest report, the three regions with high number of fraudulent practices included Rukwa that accounted for 46% of the cases, followed by Morogoro with 25% and Dar es Salaam region with 13% of the cases.

Other regions that include Mwanza, Kagera, Arusha, Katavi and Kilimanjaro committed fraudulent practice of 1% while regions of Tabora, Dodoma, Coast, Kigoma, Songwe, Iringa, Shinyanga, Mara, Singida, Tanza, Geta, Ruvuma, Njombe, Manyara, Mtwara, Lindi and Simiyu committed fraudulent practices of less than 1%.

“Zanzibar also recorded a fraudulent practice of less than 1% committed by users of telecommunication services,” the report said.

Meanwhile, TCRA received 2,969 complaints from dissatisfied customers during the period from April to December, 2022 which were attended to and closed.

“Consumer of communication services have the right to complain once the services provided by communication service providers do not meet their expectation. If consumer are dissatisfied, they file their complaints to their service providers and if the complaint is solved, then the process ends there. However if not solved, then the complaint is brought to TCRA for further hearing,” the report said.
