Motorists in Tanzania should brace for tougher times ahead as fuel prices hit a new record high with effect from Wednesday August 2, 2023.
According to the new cap prices announced by Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura), changes in prices of petroleum products in August 2023 are mainly due to challenges in the availability of US Dollars and changes in fuel levy, prices of petroleum products in the world market and premiums in importation of petroleum products.
Motorists in Dar es Salaam will now pay 3199/- for a liter of petrol, 2935/- for a litre of diesel and 2688/- for a liter of kerosene.

Those in Mtwara will have to pay 3271/-, 3008/- and 2714/- respercively.
The energy regulator Oil Marketing Companies are free to sell their products at a price that givesthem a competitive advantage provided that, such price does not exceed the price cap and is not below the floor price for the relevant product as it is computed according to the EWURA (Petroleum Products Prices Setting) rules.
Ewura warned that legal action will be taken against any retailer or wholesaler who fails to comply with these instructions.
