NMB Bank Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of NMB Bank has set aside 1bn/- for the NMB Nuru Yangu Scholarship and Mentorship Program 2023/2024 that targets 130 beneficiaries as part of the foundation’s commitment to facilitate bright and underprivileged students to access higher education.
Speaking during the opening of the program’s second phase application window in Dar es Salaam at the weekend, the NMB Foundation Board Chairperson who also doubles as the NMB Bank Chief Executive Officer Ruth Zaipuna re-affirmed her foundation’s commitment to continue supporting various sustainable development projects across the country that aligns with the bank’s vision of creating a shared value for all its customers.
“NMB Foundation today announces opening of the application window for the NMB Nuru Yangu Scholarship and Mentorship Program 2023/2024. Through our scholarship program, we managed to receive 65 successful candidates last year and we are targeting 65 candidates this year. I take this opportunity to encourage all needy students who meet the program’s criteria to apply as our selection process is very transparent,” Zaipuna said.
Zaipuna noted that the NMB Foundation will continue working with other potential development partners across the country including the Government to support Corporate Social Investments (CSIs) in its key priority areas including education, health, entrepreneurship and environment among others.
Earlier, the NMB Foundation General Manager Nelson Karumuna said the second phase of the NMB Nuru Yangu Scholarship and Mentorship Program targets 65 students with interest in Accounts and Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Oil and Gas and Medical studies.
“As a Foundation, we will foot all the associated costs for the successful candidates to be in class including tuition fees, scholastic materials, transport, health insurance and a laptop computer. We will also secure practical training and mentorship opportunities for the successful candidates to enable them realize their full potential,” Karumuna said.
He noted that the 65 students that were successful during the first phase of the program last year are already perusing their higher education at various universities including the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Ardhi University, University of Dodoma (UDOM) and Mzumbe University among others.
Karumuna said the application window for the second phase of the NMB Nuru Yangu Scholarship and Mentorship Program 2023/2024 is set to close on October 8, 2023 and urged all eligible students to apply.
