DAR ES SALAAM — Tanzanian investors can take part in the Dangote Refinery initial public offering (IPO) indirectly through specialised digital investment platforms, as the share offering is primarily listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and has no direct cross-listing on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE).
One such platform, MyStocks, says it offers Tanzanian residents access to the offering. Investors are required to open an account and complete identity verification (KYC) using a valid ID and address details.
According to the platform, investors do not need their own Nigerian Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) account or a Nigerian Bank Verification Number (BVN), as it uses an omnibus holding structure. Under this arrangement, shares are held collectively on behalf of multiple investors rather than in individual names on the Nigerian register.
After verification, investors follow the platform’s funding instructions, then review and confirm an investment quote before purchase.
The route highlights how Tanzanian investors are increasingly reaching regional markets through fintech intermediaries rather than direct exchange links. It also means participants hold their exposure through the platform and not directly on the Nigerian register, a distinction institutional investors may want to weigh when considering fees, custody and settlement arrangements.
