Tanzania’s investment delegation has explored Italian expertise in agriculture, artificial intelligence, data infrastructure and railway technology as part of the EU–Tanzania investment roadshow.

During the second day of the Italy leg in Emilia-Romagna, the Tanzanian agribusiness delegation visited Apofruit–Almaverde, Martini Group and Unitec to examine post-harvest handling, cold storage, livestock operations and fruit processing.

The visits focused on technologies and business models that could support greater efficiency and value addition across Tanzania’s agricultural supply chains.

A separate delegation led by Deputy Minister Pius Chaya visited the University of Bologna, DAMA Tecnopolo and the Bologna San Donato railway testing facility.

The programme covered artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0, supercomputing, data centres and railway testing and simulation.

The technology-focused discussions come as Tanzania seeks to strengthen digital infrastructure and introduce greater use of technology across productive sectors.

Agriculture remains another major investment priority, particularly in processing, mechanisation, storage and export-oriented value chains.

The Italian roadshow also presented opportunities in rice, cashew and coffee processing, renewable energy, power transmission and digital infrastructure.

The broader EU–Tanzania programme is designed to move beyond general investment promotion by connecting Tanzanian institutions and businesses with European companies, financiers and technology providers.

For Tanzania, the commercial opportunity lies not only in attracting foreign capital but also in accessing technologies and expertise that can raise productivity and support domestic value addition.

The European roadshow later moved to the Netherlands, where Tanzania presented opportunities in agriculture, minerals, ports and logistics.
