DAR ES SALAAM — Tanzania’s mining sector could offer opportunities for domestic manufacturers and service providers as the country seeks to expand investment and increase the value generated from its mineral resources.

Mining operations depend on a wide network of suppliers, including companies providing protective equipment, machinery components, electrical systems, maintenance, fabrication, transport and industrial services. Where local firms can meet technical and safety requirements, supplying these needs could create business opportunities beyond mineral extraction itself.

The potential for local manufacturing will depend on the products involved. Some specialised equipment may require advanced technology, substantial investment or certification that domestic suppliers do not yet possess. Other products and services may offer more accessible entry points for businesses with the appropriate skills, facilities and quality controls.

The Tanzania Mining and Investment Conference, scheduled for November 19–21, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, is expected to bring together investors and participants from across the mining value chain. Discussions around mineral value addition and industrial development could provide an opportunity to examine how local suppliers can participate more effectively.

For Tanzanian businesses, the immediate priority is to understand procurement requirements, identify products that can be supplied competitively and build relationships with mining operators and established contractors. Stronger local supply chains could support industrial development, provided local products meet the reliability, quality, and cost requirements of the sector.
